Reviewing Huion’s new tablet Kamvas PRO 16 (2.5K) surprised me with the quality of the screen and performance. It wasn’t without experience hiccups, but let’s take it one step at a time, shall we?

A quick disclaimer: this tablet was sent to me by Huion for review. But just like with all the other reviews, this is my honest opinion. I wasn’t paid to say anything specific, I just open up the box, test it, and share my experience with you.

Specifications of Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5k)

First of all, this tablet has a 2.5k resolution screen and that makes the image quality crisper. If you are used to working in 1080p resolution, your eyes will appreciate the difference.

Directly from Huion website:

The screen of Kamvas Pro 16(2.5K) adopts the quantum dot technology that effectively reduces the harmful blue light and enables a 145% sRGB color gamut. 16.7 million display colors support artists to render more vibrant and realistic artworks.

The contrast ratio is 1200:1 which allows for higher contrast between dark and light.

It has full lamination technology that combines anti-glare glass and the screen, which eliminates the parallax (your cursor should be following the nib very closely).

Plus, the screen is specially treated to reduce reflection. So when we look at me removing the protective cover from the screen itself, we will notice a drastic difference in the reflection of a light that’s shining right on top of it.

Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5k) has 178° degrees viewing angle. This means that when you’re looking at the picture if you move around slightly it’s not going to distort the view from any angle.

The tablet features 8 programmable press keys that you can set up to be whatever shortcut you want. Using something as simple as [B] for brush, or complex as [Cmnd/Cntrl + Shift + S] to “Save as…” (in Photoshop).

The PW517 Pen:

  • has 3.0 PenTech
  • no charging required
  • 300PPS report rate
  • 5080LPI pen resolution
  • 8192 pressure sensitivity levels
  • supports the pen tilt within ±60°
  • very lightweight, you can barely notice it
  • comfortable to hold design
  • has two different pen nib options:
regular pen nib and the felt nib that’s made of fiber and gives more friction when drawing

The pen also has 2 programmable buttons that you can program to be any shortcut you want. As per usual, I like to program the bottom button for [Spacebar] which activates a Hand Tool in Photoshop; and the top one for Eye Dropper Tool. But you should select whatever you use the most!

Kamvas Pro 16(2.5K) is covered with an al-alloy case which prevents the display from overheating as you’re working. During my drawing session, I have noticed that my laptop was getting warmer but the tablet stayed about the same temperature.

You can also use Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5k) as a pen display and a pen tablet. All you have to do is turn off the screen and it will turn into a pen tablet so that you look on the screen of your computer/laptop while drawing on it. It’s a great option for a straighter posture, but then you lose out on its biggest selling point – the 2.5k screen.

The foldable stand ST200 comes in the box as well and features two adjustment options. Each option also has three different angle adjustments, which is perfect for any working posture.

Testing Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5k) Performance

First, I ran some tests (you can see them in real-time in the review video).

I was looking to see:

  • if the lines are jiggly for no reason – they weren’t;
  • if the cursor is following the pen nib closely – it was;
  • after quick strokes, will it lag? – no lagging.

The tests gave me high expectations for the performance of this tablet as everything seemed to be working just great! So far, I am very impressed by the quality of the execution.

Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5k) Drawing Experience

In general, I had a wonderful drawing and painting experience using Huion Kamvas 16 Pro 2.5k. There weren’t any issues like lagging or bugs. The performance was top-notch.

The tablet and the pen did exactly what they should’ve – followed my movements and let me focus on my work.

The quality from 1080p to 2.5k screen is very noticeable, especially when it comes to zooming in on your piece. Since there are more dots, there’s less pixelation happening on the screen.

I was completely in the zone painting this winter girl and got used to working with this tablet super quickly.

I can definitely see it as my day-to-day tablet.

Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5k) CONS

So far I’ve only mentioned the positive things, but what can I say?

It has been a very positive experience, except for one little part.

The only CON that I found was that the tablet requires colour adjusting before you begin painting. I completely forgot to do it, and when I was done with my artwork and looked at it on my phone, the vibrancy of the colors I thought I was putting was gone.

Maybe there needs to be a piece of paper that reminds you to do it and tells you how to do it. So that you won’t be as surprised as me.

Not to worry, it’s a simple fix.

Adjusting The Tablet’s Dsplay Colors

In order to adjust the colours on your Huion display, you have to long-press the on/off button.

A new menu with various colour-adjusting settings will pop up. You can move the sliders and select various options using your pen.

I suggest opening the same image on your computer display and on your tablet. This way you can compare the two side-by-side and make the right decisions.

Hot tip: open not one, but a few images and switch between them. Our eyes get tired and think “it’s good enough”, while in fact there’s more to be done.

Who is this tablet for?

I think this tablet is perfect for both beginners and professional artists. The quality and the performance are fantastic! So if you want something extra, and not the standard 1080p screen – then this one is an excellent option.

If you are just starting out, and are looking for a cheaper tablet, then there are other great options too! You can check them out here.

But overall, after testing this tablet, I think that if you consider buying it – just pull the plug. It’s great!
